Elmhurst Memorial Hospital Foundation Announces $27.5 Million Capital Campaign
4/8/2009
ELMHURST – The Elmhurst Memorial Hospital Foundation has launched the public phase of Exceptional Past, Extraordinary Future, the capital campaign to support the new Elmhurst Memorial Hospital in Elmhurst.
The campaign seeks to raise $27.5 million to assist with the $500 million new campus. More than $11 million has been already pledged to the campaign by donors during the quiet phase of the campaign. These donors include board members, physicians and other early supporters.
“The campaign is gaining momentum as more individuals and businesses are being invited to support this important project,” noted Sandra Nelson, President of the Elmhurst Memorial Hospital Foundation. “We are extremely grateful for the generosity of our donors who have committed to the campaign thus far and look forward to all of those who will join us on this exciting journey.”
The campaign will be led by a cabinet of prominent community members, who have made significant contributions of time and talent, as well as generous gifts to the campaign.
The Co-Chairs of the capital campaign are Brian Grant and Mary Ann Malloy, M.D. Grant, of Oak Brook, is the Executive Vice President of Integrated Merchandising Systems, LLC. Dr. Malloy is an internal medicine physician with the Elmhurst Clinic and on staff at Elmhurst Memorial Hospital. The Honorable Lee Daniels is the Chairman of the Community Division of the campaign. Daniels, of Elmhurst, was the Speaker of the Illinois House of Representatives from 1995-97 and the House Republican Leader from 1983-2003.
“This is truly a historic philanthropic initiative,” remarked Grant. “The campaign provides an opportunity for people in the local communities to come forward and be a part of the new Hospital that will serve them for decades to come.”
The new Hospital building will serve as the centerpiece of the 50-acre integrated healthcare campus located near the corner of York and Roosevelt roads in Elmhurst. Scheduled to open in late 2011, the 866,000 square-foot hospital will contain 259 private patient rooms and be connected to the existing Elmhurst Memorial Center for Health.
“More than 80 years ago, the people of Elmhurst did something exceptional — they built the first acute-care hospital in DuPage County,” said Leo Fronza, President/CEO of Elmhurst Memorial Healthcare. “Now it is time to create a hospital to serve the local communities for the next 80 years and beyond — to create something truly extraordinary.”
In order to see this historic project through to completion, the most ambitious campaign in the history of Elmhurst Memorial Healthcare is required. “Over the past several years, a solid foundation has been laid for this campaign,” notes Dr. Malloy, an internal medicine physician with the Elmhurst Clinic, on staff at Elmhurst Memorial Hospital. “We are very fortunate to have such strong supporters who share our vision of advancing the heart and science of healthcare in an entirely new way. Now, we invite community members to join us in making this dream a reality.”
